What if the thing we are most tempted to throw away is actually the thing we need most?

In this sermon on the Parable of the Tenants, the image of “the stone the builders refused” becomes a powerful reflection on who—and what—we choose to center in our lives. Jesus reminds us that God’s vision is often upside down: the rejected, forgotten, and overlooked can become the very foundation of something new.

On World Communion Sunday, that message takes on special meaning. Communion offers a vision of community centered not on power, nationalism, or violence, but on mercy, humility, love, and belonging. Jesus, the cornerstone, calls us toward a different way of being together. And in God’s world, even those who feel like leftovers are beloved—fed, found, and welcomed at the table.
