Welcome to the Congregational Church of La Jolla, an Open & Affirming Congregation of the United Church of Christ. Ours is a unique faith community, combining the stability of tradition with open-minded inclusiveness. So whether you’re seeking a church home, a place to worship while on vacation, a venue for a concert or special event, or simply a quiet place that offers free coffee and wifi on weekdays, we want you to feel welcome here.
Gathered in 1889, we are La Jolla’s oldest church. And our beautiful meeting house, dedicated in 1916, is one of this community’s oldest public buildings. As an Open & Affirming congregation, we intentionally welcome all people into our family. And though this is a new concept in many churches, it is long been integral to our Congregational and UCC identity. Far from following cultural movements toward more inclusiveness and justice, our tradition has been leading change since the 17th century.
I’m in my first year as pastor of this church, the sixth pastor since the 1930’s. Thus it can be said that this is a church that encourages quality relationships and true friendships. To walk through our doors is to experience sanctuary and hospitality; and to worship with us is to engage both the spirit and the mind. We like to say that our faith is informed by reason, and our reason is informed by faith. That’s because ours is a church that doesn’t tell you what to think, but we always give you something to think about.
I look forward meeting you or hearing from you, so please stop by or contact me if you have any questions.
